When the Body Speaks: How Energy Healing and Intuition Can Transform Your Life

There are moments in life when things feel heavy, confusing or overwhelming. Moments when your body whispers, or even screams, for something deeper than what you’ve been offered. This is often where the journey inward begins.

In an episode of the Coming Home to Ourselves with Denise Elysa Podcast last year, Denise was joined by one of her most beloved teachers, Selena Jones, from Energy Balancing Connection. In this blog post based off of last year’s interview, we explore what it means to reconnect with your energy, your intuition, and your inner self-healer as a way of coming home to yourself; slowly, gently, and in your own time.

How Energy Healing and Intuition Can Transform Your Life: Lessons from Selena Jones

Feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges or struggling with health issues? You’re not alone. Many people discover the power of energy healing and intuition when conventional systems fall short.

In this insightful conversation with Selena Jones, a seasoned energy balancing practitioner, we explore how reconnecting with your inner self can lead to profound healing, resilience, and a more compassionate way of walking through life.

In this post, you’ll learn how energy work supports physical and emotional well-being, the importance of trusting your intuition, setting healthy boundaries, and embracing your innate self-healing abilities.

Whether you’re new to this path or looking to deepen your practice, Selena’s wisdom and Denise’s embodiment of the teachings she has learned from her, offers practical tools and inspiring insights to help you come home to yourself. Denise’s work blends her various training and certifications, including over a decade of individualized sessions and training with Selena as her teacher and guide. She builds on this by integrating somatic inquiry, somatic parts work and nervous system awareness, helping people reconnect with their inner self-healer at their own pace.

From Medical Crisis to Spiritual Awakening: Selena’s Journey Into Energy Healing

Many of us are introduced to energy work through personal health crises. Selena Jones’s and Denise’s individual stories are powerful examples of how medical mysteries, combined with dissatisfaction with traditional care, propelled them both into a lifetime of energy healing and spiritual exploration.

Like Selena, Denise’s health took a dramatic turn in her early 20’s, when the medical system seemed to leave her struggling with mystery illnesses and misdiagnoses. Facing the reality of becoming increasingly bedridden, she turned to Selena for support. From there, a beautiful practitioner-client and later teacher-student and friendship formed.

Denise wasn’t the only one who was initially skeptical about energy work, or had shut down her gifts earlier in her life. Selena, previously a vet-tech, was also initially sceptical about non-conventional approaches. This lens shifted when she experienced the healing power of therapeutic touch. That first session was a turning point, revealing how unresolved grief and emotional wounding can manifest physically.

Selena shares, “I was exposed to energy work when a friend was ill and receiving therapeutic touch. Later, through my own health challenges, I realized that grief and unspoken emotions were deeply connected to my symptoms. That insight led me to study energy healing as a way to support my recovery, and it transformed my life.”

This story highlights an essential truth: many enter the healing journey out of necessity, which then blossoms into a profound spiritual awakening. Most people get pushed into this realm because they’re seeking relief for themselves or someone they love. It’s often a pathway from pain to purpose.

The Role of Intuition and Energy Work in Healing

Selena describes her journey from skepticism to clarity, illustrating how consistent practice opened her third eye, allowing her to see and work with energies, auras, guides, and even ancestors.

Initially, Selena didn’t believe much about this work. She is science-oriented with a background in biology. As she took more courses and practiced, her intuition became clearer and she began to see energy fields around people and receive guidance from guides and angels, bringing a new depth to her work.

One of the foundational pieces of both Selena’s and Denise’s work – much of which Denise shares was taught to her by Selena – is that energy healing is not about bypassing the physical body or replacing conventional medicine, but complementing it. Selena stresses, “It’s about developing a holistic approach respecting what medicine offers while recognizing its limitations. This balance helps people feel empowered, like they’re co-creating their healing instead of relying solely on practitioners.”

Their personal experiences reveal how trusting your intuition can guide you to the right practitioners, treatments, and lifestyle choices. In the episode, Selena shares a story about accidentally burning herself, and the empowering shifts that can come from learning how to explore similar circumstances through a different lens. “When you begin to listen to your body’s whispers about why you get burned, why you feel heavy around certain people, it becomes easier to make aligned decisions,” she offers.

The Significance of Self-Healing and Empowerment

A core principle Selena champions is that everyone has an innate capacity to heal. When working with clients and teaching other practitioners, she focuses on empowering them, teaching them tools to access their own guidance, trust their body’s messages, and take responsibility for their well-being.

This empowerment is essential for overcoming feelings of powerlessness often ingrained by the medical system or societal expectations. Selena teaches that it’s about recognizing the signals your body is sending, your intuition guiding you, and giving yourself permission to listen. The more you practice, the more resilient you become. You learn to move through fear, grief, and even physical pain with grace.

She advocates for simple yet powerful daily practices, like pausing to ask, “What is my body trying to tell me?” or visualizing light around oneself during moments of stress. “These small shifts can create a vast difference in how you handle life’s challenges,” she says.

Having navigated complex chronic illness herself, Denise brings a deep understanding and lived-experience lens of pacing, capacity, and what it means to work with the body rather than against it. Additionally, her unique experiences within the medical system and through her professional work with the BC-CLMF co-facilitating groups with the Internal Medicine Specialists, Dr. Ric Arseneau and Dr. Jane McKay, to support their patients living with complex chronic diseases like ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, Long COVID, MCAS, POTS, and other co-existing conditions through bottom-up processing and nervous system support, has widened her specialty and expanded her understanding of these illnesses beyond the metaphysical.

Boundaries, Self-Respect, and Living Authentically

In her practice and personal life, Selena emphasizes the importance of setting energetic boundaries. She explains that, as you become more connected to your energy and intuition, you naturally develop clarity about what is acceptable and what isn’t.

“Boundaries aren’t about judgment or pushing people away,” she clarifies. “They’re about respecting your space, honoring what feels good, and understanding that not every relationship is meant to last forever. If someone’s energy drains you or makes your body tense, that’s a clear sign to reevaluate that connection.”

Selena and Denise discuss how their own boundaries evolved over time, from people-pleasing tendencies to knowing what they need, and I communicating that with compassion. It’s an act of self-love that actually improves relationships and creates more safety within them, by being honest and clear about your needs and comfort levels.

This process of coming into alignment isn’t just individual; it has ripple effects on relationships, work, and overall life quality. Selena notes, “When you respect your energy, you naturally attract people who honor it, and that makes your life more joyful and authentic”. Learning what healthy boundaries are, what they feel like, how to set and hold them and embodying the version of yourself that is able to do this naturally and with grace, is something that Denise mentions working with frequently in her 1:1 sessions; especially with those living with complex chronic diseases. Often people who are living with these illnesses have a long history of over-giving, people-pleasing, and sacrificing themselves for others. Coming to the embodied understanding that we are inherently worthy without self-sacrificing or abandoning ourselves is a difficult, yet incredibly healing process. This is something that Selena helped Denise learn in the early years of her own journey, and is now something she offers back to her own guests.

Living in Flow: How Energy Awareness Transforms Daily Life

Selena shares that integrating energy awareness into everyday life shifts how she engages with the world. A simple example is noticing the energy of a room or person and choosing where to invest her time.

If you walk into a space and feel it is contractive or heavy, you can give yourself permission to step back, leave, or set the energetic protections that can support you in keeping yourself safe within that space. That’s healing in action, honoring your boundaries at a subtle energetic level.

She explains that this awareness extends to health and even her reaction to accidents. “When I burned myself while cooking, I paused to ask, ‘What was I thinking? What message am I supposed to get?’. Instead of blaming myself, I see it as a sign that perhaps I was rushing or not present, and I use that awareness to shift my behavior.”

Selena advocates making space for grace, patience, and self-compassion. “Life won’t always be perfect, but when you come from a place of love and curiosity, you’re much better equipped to handle setbacks.”

Final Thoughts: Hope, Resilience, and Coming Home to Yourself

Selena leaves us with a hopeful message:

“Regardless of your circumstances, coming back home to your inner self is always possible. Even in hopeless moments, if you turn inward and listen, the next step will be revealed. It’s about honoring your journey, asking for help, and trusting that you’re supported by your guides, your body, and your higher self.”

She encourages embracing the process with patience and compassion:

“Healing isn’t linear, and that’s okay. Your spirit and your body want to come back into harmony, and energy work is a gentle, loving way to facilitate that.”

If you’re ready to explore your own energy and intuition, both Selena and Denise’s’s work and resources are accessible ways to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is energy healing, and how does it work?

Energy healing is a gentle, complementary approach that works with the body’s natural energy systems to support balance and regulation. Rather than “fixing” anything, it invites your system back into a state where your inner self-healer can do what it already knows how to do at its own pace.

2. Can energy healing replace medical treatment?

No. This work isn’t here to replace medical care, but to gently support you alongside it. You don’t have to choose one or the other. You’re allowed to be supported by doctors, treatments, and the medical system and also begin building a deeper, more trusting relationship with your own body, your energy, and your inner world. Both can exist together. Both can support you in different ways. And you get to find what feels right for you, at your own pace.

3. Why do emotions or past experiences come up during healing?

Sometimes what we’ve carried, may it be grief, stress, or other unprocessed experiences, lives within the body. When your system begins to feel safe enough, these layers may gently rise to the surface. This isn’t something going wrong. It can be a sign that your body is ready to be heard in a way it maybe hasn’t been before.

4. What are energetic boundaries, and why do they matter?

Energetic boundaries are the way you honor your capacity, your needs, and your space, physically, emotionally, and energetically. Additionally, energetic boundaries are how you protect your energy field from what is not yours to carry. This could be from psychic attack energy, energetic cords, or anything else that simply is not yours.

There are many ways you might notice this, and some signs can be subtle and may not feel as though they have a clear link to anything specific. A few signs you might become aware of are

  • a tightening when something doesn’t feel right
  • a softening when something feels aligned
  • feeling unwell after being in a crowded space or around other people
  • pain or other sensation arising after a conflict; this can also arise when someone thinks something negative about you that you don’t even know about

Learning to listen to those cues can gently guide you toward relationships and environments that feel more supportive to your system.
